Chicago, IL (October 14, 2024) – In a tragic incident early Monday morning, two people were killed after a driver ran a red light on Chicago’s South Side. The accident occurred at approximately 1:38 a.m. near 35th Street and Michigan Avenue, just outside Chicago police headquarters.
An 18-year-old man driving a black Infiniti sedan ignored the red light and collided with a silver sedan. Both the driver, a 45-year-old man, and the passenger, a 40-year-old woman, in the silver vehicle were pronounced dead after being transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The driver of the Infiniti, though injured, was in stable condition at the same hospital.
The Major Accidents Unit of the Chicago Police Department is actively investigating the cause of the crash.
