Fatal Truck Accident in Aurora, Illinois Takes the Life of 72-Year-Old Pedestrian

Aurora, IL (October 10, 2024) – A tragic accident in Aurora, Illinois claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman after she was struck by a pickup truck last week.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 3, just before 6 p.m., at the intersection of East New York Street and West Park Place. According to the Aurora Police Department, the woman, identified as Maria Herrera of Aurora, was walking eastbound across the street when she was hit by a gray 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck making a southbound turn onto West Park Place.

Police reported that Herrera appeared to be looking at her phone while crossing the street. Despite the quick response from fire crews, who transported her to Ascension Mercy Hospital, she was later airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where she tragically passed away the following day due to her injuries.

The intersection remained closed for several hours as authorities conducted a thorough investigation into the accident. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time, though police are continuing to investigate.
