Marengo, IL (May 18, 2025) – A Sunday evening collision at South Grant Highway (Route 14) and East Coral Road sent three people to area hospitals and forced authorities to close the highway for several hours.
What Happened
- Marengo Fire & Rescue crews arrived just after 6:35 p.m. Sunday evening to find two vehicles with moderate damage in a classic T-bone configuration.
- Investigators say a sedan carrying two elderly occupants was struck on the passenger side by a pickup truck. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.
- Because of the number of injured patients, additional ambulances were requested. A medical helicopter was considered but ultimately grounded due to weather.
Injuries Reported
- Two elderly occupants of the sedan were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin with serious injuries.
- One of the two men in the pickup was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries; the second declined medical attention.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit is examining what led to the collision. Officials have not released information about speed, distraction, or possible impairment.
