Center for Public Integrity Releases Devastating Nursing Home Series
At Harvey L. Waler & Associates, our Chicago nursing home abuse lawyers have spent decades pursuing compensation for those hurt by negligent nursing home staff. Now, extraordinary reports from the Center for Public Integrity are bringing some of the nursing home industry’s failings to light.
CPI is a non-partisan, non-profit investigative journalism outfit that looks into stories that don’t always make the national news. It recently published three accounts, which we are providing here for the benefit of our readers and potential clients:
- In the first report, CPI finds huge discrepancies between the staffing levels advertised by nursing homes and the staff numbers those homes actually report to Medicare
- In the second report, the Center investigates how many nursing homes received mortgage assistance from the federal government despite being given the lowest possible ratings. 20 of those homes were in Illinois, the second-highest figure in the nation.
- Finally, CPI finds that nursing homes serving minority populations offer less care than homes serving white populations.
All three reports were authored by Jeff Kelly Lowenstein. The series is a sterling example of the power of investigative journalism.
Our firm applauds these reports. Sadly, we’ve seen so many examples of neglect and abuse that we fully understand how widespread problems are in the nursing home industry.
Our nursing home abuse lawyers make sure you and your loved ones can pursue justice and compensation after being victimized.
