Google Glass and Distracted Driving in Chicago

A California woman was issued a ticket for distracted driving when pulled over for speeding on October 29th. The cause of the distraction? Google Glass, the new wearable web browser currently being beta tested by a select group of people. The ticket made a splash on the internet and began a conversation about what constitutes distraction and how our changing technology may increase risks for car accidents.

If you have been the victim of a distracted driver, please contact Harvey L. Walner & Associates, Ltd. or call 312-800-0000 to schedule a free consultation with one of our Chicago car accident attorneys.

Illinois Distracted Driving Laws

Currently in Illinois it is illegal to text while driving. Drivers under the age of 18 are not allowed to use a hand-held device for any purpose while operating a car. In January of 2014, all of that will change.

New legislation will ban hand-held cellphone use for all drivers, regardless of age or experience, throughout Illinois. This new legislation will not, however, address Google Glass or other hands-free devices, despite significant evidence that use of hands-free devices can still lead to car accidents.

While legislation banning the use of Google Glass and other hands-free devices is yet to come, victims of distracted drivers are entitled to hold irresponsible parties accountable for their actions. Please contact our experienced Chicago car accident attorneys to learn more about your rights. Harvey L. Walner & Associates, Ltd. serves clients throughout the Chicago, Illinois area.
