What happened
Police say the crash happened at about 9:13 p.m. in the 300 block of West 35th Street. A sedan traveling eastbound lost control, crossed the median, and struck an oncoming SUV headed westbound. First responders transported the sedan’s driver and her 21-year-old passenger to Stroger Hospital, where both were pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV and a passenger in that vehicle were taken to the University of Chicago Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Chicago Police Department is investigating.

Why this matters
Crashes where a vehicle suddenly crosses a median are often catastrophic. For surviving victims and families, the fallout is immediate and overwhelming: medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages, and complicated insurance claims. At the same time, crucial evidence can be lost within hours — skid marks can be washed away, witnesses disperse, and video may be overwritten.
What families should do right now
If you were involved in this crash, witnessed it, or have video from the area, preserve that evidence and contact police. Get medical care even for minor symptoms and save all records and bills. Don’t give recorded statements to insurers without speaking to an attorney first. These first steps matter for any future claim.
