Auto accidents can be complicated incidents to investigate. Determining who’s at fault requires a skilled, professional investigation. Our Chicago auto accident lawyers have years of experience conducting these investigations, but you can help us immeasurably by thoroughly documenting your accident.

The law is all about evidence. Courts generally don’t give much weight to claims that aren’t backed up by proof. Even if the claim is true, a judge or jury will not simply accept it at face value.

This is why we always urge you take a few simple steps after a car accident to make sure that everything is well-documented.

First, take quite a few pictures at the scene. You want to take pictures of the vehicles involved, of course, but the environment is also crucial. Snap photos of any damage to trees or barriers, as well as markings on the road itself. These photos don’t have to be professional in quality, but make sure they’re clear and in focus.

Second, request copies of any records or documents generated after your accident. This means police reports, medical records and insurance paperwork- you’re entitled to this information, and it can prove crucial down the road.

If you’ve been hurt in an accident in the Chicago, Illinois area, our auto accident lawyers want to speak to you. Please call Harvey L. Walner & Associates, Ltd. today at (312) 410-8496 for a free consultation.
