15-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in McHenry County Hit‑and‑Run

Crystal Lake, IL — A 15‑year‑old boy lost his life Wednesday night after being struck from behind by a hit‑and‑run driver while riding his bicycle on Terra Cotta Road near Deering Oaks Lane, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reports.

According to investigators, the teen and a friend were traveling southbound just after 9:30 p.m. when an unknown vehicle struck one of the riders from behind. The driver did not stop. First responders found the boy suffering from life‑threatening injuries and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

Sheriff’s deputies emphasize that the victim’s bicycle was equipped with a working red taillight at the time of the crash. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate. No description of the fleeing vehicle has been released.
