Huntley, IL (May 3, 2025) – A Saturday evening crash near Foster Road and Route 47 turned into a five-vehicle chain reaction that injured 10 people and shut down the highway for hours, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, traveling southbound, struck the rear of a 2024 Honda CR-V and a 2016 Hyundai Veloster that had slowed behind a car waiting to turn left into a private driveway. The force of that impact pushed the Tacoma into the northbound lanes, where it smashed head-on into a 2020 Kia Niro and clipped a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander.

A 55-year-old Pingree Grove woman riding in the Outlander sustained the most severe injuries. She was first taken to Northwestern Huntley Hospital, then airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. The Outlander’s 27-year-old driver, also from Pingree Grove, suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.

A 35-year-old man and a 2-year-old boy in Tacoma were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin; both were treated and released. Six additional crash victims were evaluated on the scene and released by paramedics.

Fire crews from the Huntley Fire Protection District secured the scene and cleared debris, while Route 47 remained closed for several hours. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit continues to piece together exactly how a routine turn led to such devastation.
