Two Critically Injured After SUV Slams into Sedan on South Side

Chicago, IL (April 3, 2025) – Thursday night turned chaotic on Chicago’s South Side after a violent crash left two people in critical condition and a third injured.

According to Chicago police, the collision happened just after 8:20 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Stony Island Avenue in the Marynook neighborhood. A white SUV was headed eastbound when it struck a northbound white sedan. The impact sent the SUV careening off the road and into a nearby building.

The SUV’s driver, a 62-year-old man, suffered body trauma and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. His passenger, a 63-year-old woman, also sustained serious injuries, including multiple broken bones. She was listed in critical condition as well.

The 18-year-old male driving the sedan was taken to Christ Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to recover.

Authorities have not issued any citations at this time. The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Unit is actively investigating the cause of the crash and whether speed, distraction, or mechanical failure played a role.
